Cox Charities Awards $16,500 to Gulf Coast Non-Profits

Pensacola - Cox employees in the Gulf Coast Market have awarded $16,500 to local non-profits through the Cox Charities Community Investment grant program. Over 35 applications were received from local organizations seeking funding for various programs.  After much deliberation, Cox employees who serve on the Cox Charities Selection Committee awarded the grants to the following six organizations:

  • Emerald Coast Fitness Foundation in Fort Walton Beach received $3,000 for the Kids Water Safety Campaign that strives to decrease drowning rates.

  • Lutheran Services of Florida was granted $3,000 for a climate control shed at Currie House, a temporary shelter for vulnerable youth.

  • Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation was awarded $1,000 to Take a Kid Fishing at the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier next October.

  • Northwest Florida Guardian ad Litem received $5,000 to provide funds to Cases for Kids a new program that provides rolling duffle bags full of supplies for vulnerable children during a very traumatic time.

  • Pensacola Little Theatre was granted $3,000 for It Starts with Art, a program that takes art education to underserved communities.

  • United Services Organization was awarded $1,500 for the Home for the Holidays program which eases the holiday travel of enlisted men and women at the Pensacola International Airport.

“Our committee had another challenging decision this year as there are so many deserving nonprofits in our area,” said David Deliman, Cox Gulf Coast Market Vice President. “They selected six great programs that impact some of the most needy and vulnerable in our community. We salute all the nonprofits who applied for funding and thank them for the work they do for our neighbors along the Gulf Coast.”

Cox Charities is an internal giving campaign 100% funded by employees who set aside a portion of their paychecks to fund the local grants.  Money donated by employees in the Gulf Coast Market stays in the Gulf Coast Market.  A committee of 13 Gulf Coast employees review applications and choose grant recipients based on the amount of funding available.

In addition to the Community Investment Grant, the Cox Charities Innovation in Education Program provides grants of up to $2,500 each to schools to fund classroom programs and curriculum that encourage and promote students’ ingenuity and imagination through the innovative use of technology. Last spring, Cox employees awarded nearly $8,500 to eight local schools.

Cox Charities was created to strengthen Cox markets through the support of programs that positively impact communities in the areas of education, technology, social issues, conservation and the arts. Cox Charities does not replace, but rather increases Cox’s philanthropic giving in the community.  In 2021, Cox gave nearly one million dollars in cash and in-kind services to nonprofits in the Gulf Coast Market.

The Cox Gulf Coast market includes parts of Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties.
